What Weddington does to a fence

Weddington is a town of big lots. One-acre and larger parcels are normal, and so are horses. That means a lot of split rail and board fence along the road and the pasture, and a wood privacy fence closer to the house. Split rail posts stand in the open ground with no concrete, and in our red clay they rot at the ground line sooner than the rails above them.

Much of the town is wooded. Tall pines drop limbs in every summer storm and in the ice we get some winters. A limb across a privacy fence usually breaks a rail and some pickets. A limb across a split rail fence often just knocks the rails out of the posts, which is a quick fix if the post is still sound.

The newer neighborhoods off Weddington Road and Providence Road have smaller lots and HOA rules, with the builder-grade pine privacy fences that go up with the houses. Those fences age together, so when one neighbor starts replacing posts, the rest of the street is close behind.

A short drive from Waxhaw

Weddington is a few minutes up the road from our base, which keeps the drive out of the price and makes a next-day return after concrete cures simple.

Count the posts, not the feet

On a long rural run, walk the line and push on each post. The ones that move are the repair. We price by the repair visit, not by the length of the fence.

Permits, setbacks and HOA approval in Weddington

Weddington is a town in Union County. Union County handles building permits and inspections. The Town of Weddington handles zoning and setbacks inside the town limits, and Union County does the same for the many Weddington addresses outside them. Find out which side of the line your lot is on before you plan a new fence. A repair in the same place usually needs nothing.

The older acre lots often have no HOA. The newer neighborhoods do, and most of those HOAs want approval before a new fence and a plan with the fence line, height, style and gate. Check with your HOA early. We help with that drawing from your sizes. Read our Union County HOA guide.

On a big lot there can be a well line, a septic field and an irrigation line between the house and the fence. Before we dig for a new fence we call 811 so the utilities are marked for free, and we ask you where the septic field is. The town and the county have the final word on permits and setbacks, and the HOA on its own rules.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you repair split rail and farm fence?
Yes. A split rail post that rotted or a rail that cracked is a normal repair visit, $225 to $600, installed, plus tax, confirmed after the final measure. If the rails have wire mesh on them for dogs, we reattach it. Send a photo of the post and one of a rail end so we match the size.
A pine limb came down on the fence. Can you take the tree too?
We repair the fence. A limb that is small enough to move by hand we clear as part of the repair. A tree that is still on the fence is a tree job first, and we repair the fence after it is cleared. Take photos before anything is moved, for your insurance.
My lot is outside the town limits. Who do I ask about a permit?
Many Weddington mailing addresses sit outside the town limits. Inside the limits, the Town of Weddington handles zoning and setbacks; outside, Union County does. Union County handles building permits either way. Call them before a new fence, and check with your HOA if you have one. They have the final word.
How long does a repair on a big lot take?
Most repairs are one visit. A post set in concrete can need a short second visit the next day after the concrete cures, to hang the panels or the gate. The work day is usually 6 to 10 days after you accept the quote, and it goes in writing.
