What Mooresville does to a fence

Mooresville is the big town at the top of Lake Norman, and it has three kinds of fence. Along the water there are lake lots with privacy on the sides and open pickets toward the view. In the subdivisions off Brawley School Road and Williamson Road there are planned neighborhoods with matching vinyl and wood. And out past town there is still acreage, with split rail and board fence running along pastures and driveways for hundreds of feet.

Length is what makes a Mooresville fence different. A run that long has a lot of posts, and posts are where fences fail. In clay that holds water, every post along a pasture line is on the same clock, and a repair here is more often a row of posts than one corner. Rails on a split rail fence also lift out as the posts shift and rot at the ends where water sits in the mortise.

Because we are about an hour from Mooresville, we take larger fence projects here and not single-board repairs. A long run of posts, a windstorm that flattened sections along the lake, or a new fence on a big lot is worth the drive for both of us. One loose rail is not, and we tell you that when the photos come in.

Long runs, planned in days

A fence of several hundred feet is more than one visit. We plan the posts one day, the rails and boards the next, and put the work days in the written quote so you know before you say yes.

Pasture and lake, the same care

Ground-contact posts set on gravel in concrete that drains, whether it is a board fence for horses or a privacy fence on the water. The post base decides how long the fence lasts.

Permits, setbacks and HOA approval in Mooresville

Mooresville is in Iredell County. Inside the town limits, the Town of Mooresville handles zoning and setbacks and Iredell County handles building permits and inspections. Outside the limits, on much of the acreage and parts of the lake shore, Iredell County handles both. A repair that keeps the same fence in the same place usually needs nothing. A new fence, and anything near the water, is worth a call before you plan it. They have the final word.

The planned neighborhoods and the lake communities have HOAs with approved fence styles and colors, and some have rules about what is seen from the water. The acreage outside town mostly does not. So check with your HOA before a new fence or a visible repair, send them a plan with the fence line, height, style and gate, and get the yes in writing. We help with that drawing. Our HOA fence guide covers the usual form.

Before we dig for a new fence we call 811, so the utilities are marked for free. Long runs across acreage cross wells, septic lines and buried power to outbuildings, so we wait for the marks before the first hole.

Prices and how it works

  • Fence, gate and storm repairs: $225 to $600 per repair visit
  • New wood, vinyl and aluminum fences: see the cost page for the per-foot ranges

Every price is installed, plus tax, confirmed after the final measure. A long run with many bad posts is quoted as one job with its work days, not as a row of separate visits. See what moves the price on our fence cost page.

Text us two or three photos and the rough sizes, or upload them here, and we send a free written quote. After you say yes, we confirm the exact sizes on site as part of the job. No free visit to quote. The work day is usually 6 to 10 days after you accept the quote, and it goes in writing.

North Carolina projects of $40,000 or more are contracted through our licensed general contractor partner.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you repair split rail and horse fence, or only privacy fence?
Both. A lot of Mooresville is still acreage, and a split rail or board fence along a pasture is a long run of posts with rails that lift out or rot at the ends. We replace the posts that failed and the rails that split, and keep the rest. Send a wide photo of the run and a close-up of one bad post, and tell us roughly how many feet are involved.
How do you quote a fence that is hundreds of feet long?
By the run. Measure each straight run corner to corner in feet, count the gates, and send a photo of each run from a few steps back. We quote a new fence from the photos and the layout, confirm the exact sizes on site after you say yes, and plan the work days in the written quote. Long runs are exactly the kind of larger project we drive to Mooresville for.
Will you drive from Waxhaw for a single leaning post?
Mooresville is about an hour from our base, so one post is hard to make work for either of us, and we say so rather than charge you for the drive. We take larger fence projects here: long runs, storm damage across several sections, or a new fence. Send the photos and we answer honestly.
Who handles the permit, the town or the county?
Inside the town limits, the Town of Mooresville handles zoning and setbacks, and Iredell County handles building permits and inspections. Outside the limits, on the acreage and parts of the lake shore, Iredell County handles both. A repair that keeps the same fence usually needs nothing. A new fence is worth a call first. They have the final word.
