People ask us one question before any other: how much per foot? Here is the answer, with the same numbers we put in a written quote. Every price on this page is installed, plus tax, confirmed after the final measure.
Prices are for the Charlotte area: south Charlotte, Union County, and Fort Mill, Tega Cay and Lake Wylie across the state line. A fence is priced by the linear foot, which is the length of the fence line measured along the ground.
The price per foot
| Fence | Price | What you get |
|---|---|---|
| Wood privacy, 6 ft | $35 to $42 per linear foot, installed, plus tax | Pressure-treated posts in concrete, three rails, dog-ear pickets. The most looks for the money; stain or seal it every few years. |
| Vinyl privacy, 6 ft | $69 to $76 per linear foot, installed, plus tax | Vinyl posts and panels. No paint, no stain, ever. White is the common color; others cost more and take longer. |
| Aluminum, 4 or 5 ft | $66 to $80 per linear foot, installed, plus tax | Black powder-coated panels and posts. Open pickets for a front yard, a dog run or a pool. The 5-foot height sits toward the top of the range. |
The low number is a fence on open ground where the old fence is already gone. The high number includes taking the old fence down and hauling it away, about $7 a foot. Both numbers are installed, plus tax, confirmed after the final measure.
What moves the price
- Length. The fence line in feet is most of the price. Measure along the ground from corner to corner and add the runs up. Our 1-page measuring guide shows how.
- Height. The per-foot prices above are for a 6-foot privacy fence and a 4 or 5-foot aluminum fence. A 4-foot wood picket fence costs less per foot; an 8-foot privacy fence costs more and often needs a permit.
- The old fence. Removal and haul-away is the difference between the low and the high number. If you take the old fence down yourself, you pay the low number.
- Gates. Each gate is priced on its own, see below. A gate takes two heavier posts and hardware, so it costs more than the same width of fence.
- Corners and ends. Every corner and every end needs an extra post. A square yard has four; a yard with jogs around a shed or a patio has more.
- Slopes. A fence that steps down a hill takes more cutting and more time. We say so in the written quote when your photos show a slope.
- HOA rules. Many HOAs set the height, the style and the color. A rule that forces a different panel or a specific color can move the price; approval itself is free, it just takes time.
- Access. Materials carried through a gate or around a house take longer than materials dropped beside the fence line.
Gates
A new walk gate, about 4 feet wide, is priced each, on top of the per-foot price. It includes the two gate posts set in concrete, the gate, the hinges, the latch and a brace so it does not sag.
- Wood gate: $925, installed, plus tax, confirmed after the final measure.
- Vinyl gate: $1,385, installed, plus tax, confirmed after the final measure.
- Aluminum gate: $1,415, installed, plus tax, confirmed after the final measure.
A double gate for a mower, a trailer or a car is quoted from your photos and the width you need.
A worked example
Say your back yard needs 150 feet of 6-foot vinyl privacy fence and one walk gate. Here is how the written quote adds up, before tax.
- 150 feet of vinyl privacy at $69 a foot: $10,350.
- One vinyl walk gate: $1,385.
- Total with the old fence already gone: $11,735, installed, plus tax, confirmed after the final measure.
- Same yard, with us removing and hauling the old fence ($76 a foot): $12,785, installed, plus tax, confirmed after the final measure.
The same yard in wood lands at about $6,175 with the old fence gone; in aluminum at about $11,315. Tap your own numbers into the 3-tap estimator and we text you the range for your yard.
Repair prices
A repair visit is $225 to $600, installed, plus tax, confirmed after the final measure. Where a job lands inside that range:
- Low end, $225: a few broken pickets or a loose rail. That is also the minimum for one visit.
- Middle: a leaning post dug out and reset in new concrete, or a sagging gate re-hung with new hinges, a latch and a brace.
- High end, $600: a full section rebuilt between two posts, or two or three posts in the same visit.
Several repairs in one visit are quoted as one job, so three fixes at once cost less than three separate visits. When more than about three posts in ten are bad, we quote a rebuild beside the repair; the repair or replace guide explains the test we run on your photos.
What we do not promise
- A perfect color match on an old fence. New wood is lighter than weathered wood and vinyl colors drift in the sun. We say what we try and the written quote explains the options.
- A price before we see photos. The per-foot numbers are real, and your yard decides the feet, the gates and the corners. Two or three photos and rough sizes give us a written quote; the final measure on the first work day confirms it.
- HOA approval. We help with the drawing, but the HOA and the county have the final word.
Every fence we build or repair carries our 2-year workmanship warranty. Materials carry their maker's warranty. Details on the warranty page.
